From edge AI challenges to open innovation in the Open Community Experience

At the Open Community Experience, held on April 23, 2026,  in Brussels, Iryna De Albuquerque Silva and Axel Farrugia shared insights on one of today’s key AI challenges: deploying deep learning models on resource-constrained embedded systems.

Their talk highlighted the realities of edge AI, where limited memory, constrained compute, and real-time requirements demand more than simple model optimization. Building efficient embedded AI systems requires a structured, end-to-end approach.
They introduced Eclipse Aidge, the open-source platform hosted by the Eclipse Foundation, designed to support the full AI workflow, from model design to on-device deployment. By bringing structure and consistency to this process, Aidge helps bridge the gap between research and real-world applications.

The session provided practical perspectives on edge deployment and emphasized the importance of open, interoperable tools in accelerating innovation across the embedded AI ecosystem.
